Being true to what you say on paper must be highlighted not only when the moment is pleasant but we must ask ourselves the hard question when things seem negative. The CDC-COP is asking, Is America truthful to what she says on paper?
Placing Hon. Samuel D. Tweah on Visa restriction due to utopian allegations when the same Americans have the facts elevates our position that sanctions/ Visa restrictions have turned into a political commodity paid for against the indigenous influential sons and daughters by those entitled elites that believe power belongs to only them. Holding to the fact that Liberians used to see whatever that comes from Washington as gospel or law. Destroy him in Washington and the people back home will see him as a devil who has been on the rise and fall in third-world Liberia. But those days are over. The consciousness of our people has risen and we have come to remind those few elements in the U.S Treasury Department who think they are a political auxiliary of political intimidation and suppression in Liberia to be truthful to what is on paper.
We unashamedly and logically disagree that it’s undemocratic and irresponsible to place Visa restrictions on Hon. Tweah and his family on the following counts:
1. Minister Samuel D. Tweah led Liberia’s Successful Passing of the MCC Scorecard with its Highest Mark ( 14 out of 20). The highest mark in the country’s history. The workaholic Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah piloted Liberia’s most successful passing of the MCC scorecard making it the highest scorepoint in our country’s history. Amara Konneh and the failed Unity Party couldn’t achieve this feat in 12 years but Minister Tweah did it in 5 years.
2. As Finance Minister, Hon. Tweah instituted a zero borrowing policy. This international best practice is closely watched by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund ( IMF) to ensure that the national government dont borrow from the Central Bank of Liberia ( CBL) anyhow
3. The IMF’s proposal to harmonize government spending according to revenue generation or risk being dropped from IMF’s programs. Minister Tweah took over when the national wage bill was high due to the intentional wickedness of the Unity Party government, the International partners were concerned and left many expenses to the government because they could no longer fund these activities. Minister Tweah and the government being responsible enough took these inherited burdens and this skyrocketed the wage bill. IMF recommended straight reduction and that means running thousands of Liberians from jobs. Min. Tweah chose to keep Liberians on the job and rather harmonized salary. This process was suggested by the American-owned IMF. This is the truth the world must know
4. Min. Tweah as Finance minister holds the record of funding Liberia’s biggest educational rebirth more than any other minister. With the revenue generated, he funded all public universities, paid for public exams, sponsored scholarships, and added thousands of volunteer teachers to the payroll
5. Due to his passion for openness and professionalism, Min. Tweah invited International firms on several occasions according to best practices. These international firms told the world that there was no missing 16 billion, a wicked lie the Unity Party alliance vomited without evidence
With these and many more, the CDC-COP believes the Visa restriction is a diabolical strategy by those regular accusers of Hon. Tweah who want to stain his character due to his remarkable service as finance minister. We will never reason with the allegations against Min. Tweah when Amara Konneh, a protege of multiple budget shortfalls masquerades Washington when he bastardized Liberia’s economy, stole over 14 million and depleted donor funds with no accountability.
The fact that the Visa restriction can reach the Minister’s wife and children validates our position that this isn’t about working with anyone. This is an attack on the Tweah’s family. And it’s autocratic and undemocratic to transfer aggression. The personalization of this situation has further left many thinking, when will America be true to what she says on paper?
The astute Samuel D. Tweah who was hailed and celebrated in Washington at the Spring meetings can be accused without judiciary procedure only leads us to conclude that the recent wave of sanction and Visa restrictions are political mechanisms being used by a handful of henchmen with a mandate to stain, intimidate and surpass influential indigenous sons and daughters in Liberia.
We conclude by saying, DO NOT SANCTION Hon. Tweah. It will be a disastrous mortification to the IMF, MCC, World Bank and subsequently the United States of America. These institutions are on record for celebrating him. Saying otherwise only question the truthfulness of what is said on paper. We know the Visa restriction is a test of Hon. Tweah’s resolve and it has backfired and informed Liberians about the contradiction surrounding the sanction.
