The Chairman of the National traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders of Liberia, Chief Zanzan Kawor has trashed rumors and allegations that the council on February 4, 2023 petitioned President George Manneh Weah to contest for the second term of office.Addressing a well-attended press conference at their McDonald street office in Monrovia on Friday February 17, Chief Zanzan termed the rumors as misleading, stressing that the council did not and has never petitioned President Weah to contest the second term of office. According to Chief Zanzan, the National Traditional Council of Chiefs and Elders is an autonomous body established by an act National Legislature with specific mandates to circulate the messages of government and also serve as the Advisory Arm of government.He said on February 4, 2023, the Council was invited by President Weah to witness his petitioning ceremony by tens of thousands of residents of Monrovia who had converged at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia to petition the President. Chief Zanzan said the Traditional Council as the Traditional Advisory arm of Government, attended the program. He said the Council was in no error by attending the program and they did not petition the president as being rumored.Chief Zanzan said the Traditional Council is opened and available to all political parties, civil society and all interest groups in Liberia, to consult and resolve whatever problem that may arise. He said it was against this backdrop that the Council brought to Monrovia about five hundred chiefs and Elders from all-over Liberia for consultation with the various political parties and interest groups, but no political party visited the chiefs.According to Chief Zanzan, it was President Weah that provided 30 vehicles and 15 motorbikes to the chiefs to make their work easier. He emphasized that all Liberians including the opposition should now concentrate their efforts on the election and ensure that peace prevails during the elections, ensuring that the election is violent free, fair and peaceful.
